SHB 2291 Requiring MT and Reflexologist to have a state ID that matches license - did not make it to a vote in the Senate due to running out of time.

ESSB 6157 Prior Authorizations - Health carriers cannot require prior authorization for the first 6 visits for massage, chiropractic and others - Passed and headed to Governor to sign

AMTA-WA and AMTA National continue to have quarterly phone calls with Premera and EviCore.

AMTA-WA and National continues to ensure Massage is an alternative to Opiates.

AMTA-WA and National are working with organizations regarding Human Trafficking.

AMTA National is working with other states to get massage as a covered healthcare benefit.

Massage Regulations Updates

The Department of Health and Board of Massage are currently in a Rules Writing process to update and clarify certain sections of the WACs. Board meetings are open to the public, and everyone is encouraged to participate in person, or by email comments to the program managers. The AMTA-WA Chapter Government Relations Committee has been very involved.

Sections being updated:

  • Initial Training hours
  • Continuing Education Requirements
  • Breast Massage
  • Perineal Massage
