In order to become a member of the American Massage Therapy Association, Washington Chapter, you must first join the American Massage Therapy Association, National organization. Once you join "National" you'll simultaneously become a member of AMTA Washington.
Registration is processed on the AMTA National website. All dues for both your National and Washington Chapter memberships are paid on the National website during a single registration. We (the local Washington Chapter) do not collect dues directly from members. They're paid at National.
How to Register on the National Website
There are four types of AMTA National memberships from which to choose:
- Student: if you are a massage therapy student with more than two months left in your massage therapy program (upon graduation, you will need to upgrade to Graduate membership)
- Graduate: if you are about to complete your massage therapy program or have completed your program within the past year (1 year membership)
- Professional: if you completed your massage therapy program more than a year ago (1 year membership)
- Supporting: if you or your organization would like to support the profession and network with AMTA members in their community (1 year membership)
Below is a screen shot from the registration page of the National site. In this example we selected NEW Graduate (NEW as in new member - not renewing) and below that we selected Washington State, because we'll be practicing in the State of Washington and simultaneously joining AMTA-Washington.
AMTA National Member ID Number
Once you complete the registration process on the National website, you'll be assigned an AMTA National Member ID Number. This ID number is very important, and you will use it throughout your career when conducting business with AMTA on both the National website and our Chapter website.
Chapter Website Member Account - Username/Password
When you join AMTA National, you'll set up a member account on their National Website during registration. You'll also need to establish a separate member account here on our Chapter website.
We will automatically create your account on our Chapter website by the 10th of the month after you join. For example, if you join between May 1 - 31, we'll create your account here on the Chapter site around June 10th. You'll receive a "welcome" e-mail with Sign In instructions once your account is established. The reason for the delay is that AMTA National must send us your registration information before we can create your account here. This information is received after the end of each month.

If you're currently an AMTA member and you want to renew your membership, you will go to the AMTA National website and Sign-in to your account, then renew.
